no, it is a violation of MY rights to be deceived into allowing someone male to touch my genitals if i have expressly requested a female gynecologist. there are plenty of examples of male gynecologists taking advantage of their patients, and furthermore, i want a doctor who shares my reproductive system because she will know how i feel. my primary care physician always warms the speculum for pap smears because she actually understands what they feel like. a male doctor will never sympathize with the pain of endometriosis or vulvodynia or vaginismus or menorrhagia, and the discomfort of pelvic exams and internal ultrasounds. a male doctor will never understand what it is like to be female.

if i ever find out that i’ve been assigned a male gynecologist against my will, and you are being very generous to assume it would not be obvious, i would absolutely submit a formal complaint at the very least.
