People online tend to infantilize misogynists online, as “lonely young men” who are just frustrated. If you look at the communities themselves (which I don’t recommend doing directly - instead check out “We hunted the Mammoth” a blog that reports on manoshere communities)

The whole “incel” idea is centered around hatred of women. They are not all young, they are not all going through a “phase” where they say these kinds of disgusting things as “edgy jokes”. These communities are dangerous, especially to people who are vulnerable.
