Types of mental health ‘experts

I am of course, referring to the people who suggest things they think will help your depression or other mental illness.

1. The yoga fan

Thinks yoga or meditation will somehow ‘cure’ your illness overnight.

2. The foodie

Insists it’s because of a bad diet and you either need to eat healthily or go vegan.

3. The sex fanatic

Says all you need to do is get laid more. *eyeroll*

4. The nature expert

“Go for a walk in nature, it will help.”

5. The smilers

“You should just smile more!”

6. The pharmacists

“Have you tried *insert drug*? Or this one?”

7. The mind controllers

Actually believe that you can get rid of your illness by willing it away

8. Gym bunnies

They insist that exersising will make your brain magically better

9. The religious folk

These people push you to join their religion so you will be cured by whichever deity they believe in. E.g “god will help you, trust in him”

10. Captain obvious

“Have you tried being happy?”

“Have you considered being less stressed?”

As someone who struggles with mental health issues(Depression, anxiety, OCD, EDNOS) I hate seeing this kind of bullshit because you know what? They’re ALL right. You need a lot, of not more of this shit to heal yourself.

1) Physical exercise is a good thing, helps release endorphins

2) When you care about what you’re eating, it makes you feel proud of what you’re putting in your body

3) Physical contact has been shown to help with pain and grief, maybe sex isn’t the answer but for some people that intimacy will help

4) Yup! Getting outside helps, vitamin d is a mood stabilizer, especially for women!! who knew!!!

5) Smiling and faking your mood actually does work slightly, your body releases those hormones as if you were actually happy

6) Drugs to help with mental illnesses aren’t a bad thing fuck off forever

7) This goes along with faking it till you make it

8) Again number 1

9) For as anti organized religion I am there is something to finding a community to be a part of and having a spiritual hope to throw yourself into. i’m not religious but i do have a lot of spiritual beliefs

10) See 5 and 7

The annoying thing is when they minimize it, in the “just do this” way. Because when you have depression it’s super hard...
